To continually improve the product and customer service of the Yar Craft brand. Developing a product and reputation that will only be matched by it's sister company.
Yar-Craft was started in 1969 by Jack Dallman, a former sales manager of the Thompson Boat company. Passing to Bob Schuette's hands in 1995 after Jack's passing. Then in 2004 Corey Suthers and Norlen Inc. took up the torch and bought Yar-Craft. Corey was a customer of Yar-Craft and loved the brand. He proceeded to bring the line forwards, with the help of good associates, and developed the product into a recognized walleye brand. Also bringing Thompson into the line along the way. In 2011 Norlen had it's new Tomcor arm growing and sharing facilities with Yar-Craft and room was a necessity. Not being a boat manufacturer before, the Suthers wished to focus on their main business structure of metal stamping, tooling and powder coating. Finding the need for much more room with Tomcor's growth. Yar-Craft has already shrunk in 2009 and production was limited in the building move. In 2011 Corey and Rick Pierce joined forces to see that Yar-Craft would continue to evolve and develop, thus selling the production assets of Yar Craft to Challenger Inc. and the Pierce Family. The Pierce's have functioned Bass Cat Boats for 40 years under one of the longest family ownerships in the marine business. The Suthers were in search of a long term and secure owner of Yar Craft to protect the heritage and product brand they had developed. It was to be kept as Yar Craft and not to merge into the present brands of Bass Cat. Which is what was feared had a large corporate owner or a Venture Capitol acquired the brand. They had tried to make this happen in 2007, though the market and economic challenges was not friendly to the attempt at that time. Though it was kept in Corey's mind and he reopened the topic in 2011. Production of Yar Craft begins in 2012 at Bass Cat's main facility in Mountain Home (Midway), Arkansas. Yar Craft brands included approximately 9 models in Deep Vee hulls from the 1785 through to the 219 series at that time. Plans are to continue building all models of Yar Craft. Bass Cat/ Challenger Incorporated intent is to continue and evolve the brand, starting with key aspects of proprietary manufacturing processes developed in Bass Cat's line and improve the product line. Bass Cat is a five (5) time JD Power and Associates award holder of Best in Fiberglass Bass Boats, and has lead the overall scoring in Customer Service marine industry for four of those five (4 of 5) years in the JD Power and Associates study above, other brands such as Grady White, Regal, Cobalt, Yamaha, Honda Mercury and others. Finishing in second overall in other year they were involved in the study. Their heritage in the bass fishing business has led them to support many top tier professional anglers and develop the careers of many young anglers over the years. Premier tournament anglers now in the Bass Cat camp at Mike Iacaonelli, John Crews, Kevin Short, Andy Morgan (FLW), Kota Kiriyama, Terry Butcher, Mark Tucker, Allan Glasgow, Billy McCaghren, James Niggemeyer, Birtt Myers and Travis Fox (FLW). That BCB heritage from sponsoring all three of the major bass fishing tournament series points leaders in the 1970's, on through to the efforts of those now in a Bass Cat, will really assist them in understanding the roles of Walleye anglers and the needs of this sport. The Pierce Family looks forward to a long relationship with Yar Craft dealers, boat owners and the challenge of developing innovative concepts for the walleye market.
